November Thankful Tones
The Fall weather is upon us although for different parts of the country it may not seem like there is much relief in terms of weather and climate. However, as the school year in many States and school districts we're celebrating homecoming events and finishing up football seasons are preparing to have some sort of parent connect meetings through conferences and or progress reporting that will happen to parents across the country and I want to take this time as part of this blog to discuss the importance of parent connections.
Parent Connections
It is important not only to build those parent connections. There is research-based evidence has yielded results of higher student engagement, and a raise in academic growth when parents find connections with their child(s) teachers and connect to their local school communities. With, this can be accomplished when there is a common vision and goal among school leadership and staff to build and maintain those parent connections through face-to-face interactions or using digital technology such as (Google documents, email, and digital media outlets).
If you're an administrator at the district and or building level consider how you can utilize social media, flyers to pass out before and after school to parents as you greet them or say bye to them at the end of the school day. Travel regardless of our positions within a school system the connections we make with the community and parents as well as students have long lasting impressions and brand the schools in which we work diligently to ensure we provide the best quality staff, education and make the most impact in those communities.
In closing, the weather is getting colder and creating those connections not only with students every day within our classrooms is critical. As well as equally important to ensure parents feel connected to our school communities in which their students are part of every single day. As we reflect on the things that we are most thankful for in life, being able to know that we are in an educational system where we can make a difference every day should be seen as a higher calling, perhaps a purpose, and an opportunity to leave a legacy in the lives of the students that we have in our classrooms every single day. May you find small thankful moments this season in your classrooms, roles in our school communities.

Esmie
